Your permanent makeup journey doesn’t end when you leave your appointment — proper aftercare is essential to achieving beautiful, long-lasting results. As your skin heals, your brows, lips, or eyeliner will go through several natural phases, and how you care for them during this time directly impacts pigment retention, color, and overall outcome. Healing typically takes about 7–10 days on the surface, with full skin regeneration occurring over 4–6 weeks, so patience and proper care are key.
Following the guidelines below will help protect your investment, prevent complications, and ensure your results heal evenly and beautifully.
Your new brows will go through several phases as they heal. Proper aftercare is essential for optimal pigment retention and beautiful, long-lasting results.
Healing typically takes 7–10 days on the surface and up to 4–6 weeks for the skin to fully regenerate. During the healing period, avoid heavy sweating, swimming, saunas, steam rooms, and skincare or makeup directly on the brows.
On day one, your skin may release small amounts of lymph fluid. For the 2 hours following your appointment, gently blot your brows every 15 minutes with a clean paper towel and lukewarm water to pick up any fluid. This is an important step because it helps to prevent scabbing.
When you’re done blotting, apply a tiny, rice-grain amount of the ointment provided 2-3 times a day with a clean cotton swab. Do not overapply, as this suffocates the skin and delays healing. Do this for a minimum of 3 days. You may also use Aquaphor.
Before bed, wash your brows. Using clean fingertips, gently cleanse the brow area with a mild, non-scented soap. A gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil is a good example. Rinse lightly with water and pat dry, then apply a rice-grain amount of ointment.
Day 2 – Wash brows again in the morning. Continue to apply the ointment 2-3 times a day for 3 days or until your skin stops flaking. Brows may be itchy. Do not scratch or pick. If you’re uncomfortable, you may use rose water to help with dryness.
Day 3 and beyond – It’s normal for brows to appear darker initially, then lighten and soften as the skin regenerates. The final healed result emerges gradually over the next 4 weeks.
Do not attempt to remove or pick if your skin flakes. Picking can cause loss of pigment, unsatisfactory results, and/or a serious infection.
Avoid Botox injections for 14 days.
Following these brow aftercare instructions helps ensure the most beautiful healed result from your permanent makeup procedure.

At 6 weeks, your skin should be completely healed. This appointment allows me to assess how the brows have healed, address any patchy areas, make adjustments to the color or shape as needed, and add additional layers of pigment for longevity. The touch-up ensures optimal and even results, as individual healing and pigment retention can vary.
Once your permanent brows are fully healed, proper care will help preserve the color and shape for as long as possible. Consistent use of sunscreen on the brow area is one of the most important steps, as sun exposure can cause premature fading.
Avoid applying strong exfoliants, retinoids, or chemical peels directly over the brows, as these products accelerate pigment breakdown. Gentle skincare and sun protection will help maintain natural-looking permanent makeup brows longer.
Most clients opt to schedule a color refresh appointment every 12–24 months to maintain optimal color vibrancy and longevity.

Preparing the lips before your lip blush appointment is important. Healthy lips = better healed results.
In the days leading up to your treatment, focus on keeping your lips smooth, hydrated, and healthy—this helps the pigment settle evenly and heal beautifully.

Cold Sore Protocol
If you have a history of cold sores (Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1), it’s important to consult your doctor before your lip blush appointment. Most providers will prescribe an antiviral medication, such as Valtrex, to be taken for 3 days leading up to your procedure and 3 days after to help prevent an outbreak.
While a large percentage of the population carries HSV-1, taking the proper precautions ensures a smooth healing process and helps protect your final results.
